VR Stalker: review by William A. White

I just today received (along with my long awaited Bandai Playadia CD system, what a great day) the Japanese import version of NOVA STORM which is the retitled game Scavenger 4 that was a cult hit on the FM Towns Marty . Produced by Psygnosis and released under the T&E Soft Logo, NOVA STORM is a first person shotter along the lines of Total Eclipse (and is a bit like Burning Solier).

The game is for the most part stunning to look at, it has an excellent intro (each 3DO game seems to better the last as far as intros) and the in game graphics are fast, detailed and imaginative. The only complaint visually I have is the color scheme on some levels. Level one esp has some murky browns and a very drab grey sky. Level two improves greatly and has a VERY cool boss. The game is fairly hard. Each level is split in three parts and each part has a mid boss. Some mid bosses are timed, even if you have a full sheild if you fail to defeat the boss with a certain time (and it aint that long) you are treated to a FMV of your death.

Anyway, another great game for the 3DO (and to think I almost spent $1000 on a Marty to play this game!). I'm sure it'll be released in the US eventually, but so far it hasn't been announced. The impatient (like me) can get a copy from one of the many importers.

Will
